The Kawai CA501 Digital Piano continues a legacy of authentic sound and premium features found in previous models. This updated model preserves the core Grand Feel Compact wooden-key keyboard action and acoustic piano sounds of both Shigeru Kawai and Kawai Concert Grand Pianos, featuring a new ‘competition grand’ sound which provides a more natural and dynamic playing experience. The CA501 incorporates a redesigned speaker system with 360° top speaker diffuser panels to distribute the sound more like an acoustic piano. Improved Bluetooth® MIDI v5 functionality is complemented by the addition of Bluetooth® Audio v5, providing high-quality wireless audio with minimal latency and enhanced audio quality. The CA501 possesses an updated cabinet design, adopting the taller body and rounded edge details of the larger Concert Artist models, for a more impressive, contemporary look. It also boasts a modernized OLED graphic display for easier visibility. The CA501 digital piano utilizes Kawai’s latest Grand Feel Compact keyboard action, which draws upon 90 years of acoustic piano craftsmanship to provide an exceptionally realistic playing experience. Unlike so many digital pianos that glue a thin wood veneer to the outside of a short plastic key, all 88 black and white keys are crafted entirely from long pieces of wood, with finely textured Ivory Touch key surfaces applied to provide unparalleled control and realistic feel to every key.
As with an acoustic grand piano action, the keys pivot on a metal balance pin and move with a smooth seesaw-like motion, while the extended pivot length ensures a consistent, evenly-balanced touch weight – even when playing towards the back of the key. The Grand Feel Compact action also incorporates grade-weighted hammers, bass region counterweights, and let-off simulation for added authenticity, while its accurate triple-sensor key detection system allows rapidly repeated notes such as trills to be performed smoothly, without unnatural breaks in sound.
The CA501 digital piano features the distinctive sound of Kawai’s highly acclaimed EX concert grand piano, the incomparable SK-5 grand piano, and the exciting new Shigeru Kawai SK-EX ‘competition grand’ piano sample which was recorded from the pianist’s perspective. Widely regarded as the “premier pianos of Japan”, Shigeru Kawai instruments grace the stages of concert halls and musical institutions throughout the world and are prized for their exceptional tonal clarity
These remarkable instruments have been carefully recorded, meticulously analyzed, and faithfully reproduced with full 88-key sampling using Kawai’s proprietary Harmonic Imaging XL™ sound technology. This remarkable proprietary process accurately recreates the broad dynamic range of the original grand pianos, affording pianists an extraordinary level of expressiveness ranging from the softest pianissimo to the strongest, boldest fortissimo, previously unheard-of in a digital piano in this range.
METRONOME AND OTHER FEATURES
The CA501 offers a built-in metronome as an aid for the serious piano student. With ten time signatures, the metronome is a handy tool to learn to keep a steady rhythm. In addition, there are 100 drum beats inside the metronome for even more versatility.
The CA501 has a selection of reverb settings to simulate the reverberation in a small room or a cathedral-and several settings in between. A large variety of effects are also available at the touch of a finger. Effects such as a rotary speaker, phaser, delays, tremolos and much more can be added to any voice.
Another valuable feature of the CA501 is the Registration Memory. The player can store up to 16 of their favorite settings on the piano, so whenever a particularly interesting combination of sounds and effects is discovered, one can save that setting for future use.
The CA501 can transpose into any key. The Tone Control offers additional settings to please any ear and any style. And the Auto Off feature saves energy by automatically shutting off power after a given time of inactivity.
USB AUDIO AND STORAGE
The CA501 digital piano is equipped with USB connectors that not only allow this instrument to be connected to a computer for MIDI use, but also to load and save data to USB memory devices directly. This “USB to Device” feature allows instrument settings or recorded songs stored in internal memory to be saved to USB for posterity, or standard MIDI files (SMF) to be conveniently played back without additional hardware.
USB memory devices can also be used to play back MP3 or WAV audio files, allowing musicians to learn the chords or melody for a new piece, or to simply play along with their favorite songs. It is even possible to record performances as MP3 or WAV files for emailing to friends and family, or for further editing using an audio workstation.
RICH SOUND SELECTION
The CA501 digital piano also features an excellent selection of additional instrument sounds, ranging from dynamic electric pianos, realistic drawbar organs, lofty church organs, vibrant strings, astounding human choirs, and even atmospheric synth-style pads, inviting musicians to add greater variety to their performances.
Furthermore, the Dual playing mode also allows two different sounds, such as grand piano and strings, to be layered together, while the Split and Four Hands modes divide the keyboard into two independent sections. The volume balances for each playing mode can also be adjusted quickly and easily using the real-time panel controls.
PIANO REMOTE APP
Kawai’s latest PianoRemote app, compatible with iOS or Android devices, is supported by the CA501. Our multi-function app empowers owners of supported digital and hybrid pianos to manipulate a variety of control parameters, select from a menu of piano and instrumental sounds, and listen to a wide variety of built-in piano music.
TThe CA501 digital piano’s versatile Virtual Technician digitally duplicates the various tonal characteristics a skilled piano technician can coax out of a fine piano. The exclusive Virtual Technician allows various characteristics of the selected acoustic piano, electric piano, or harpsichord sound to be shaped at the touch of a button, with settings to adjust voicing and regulation, string, damper, and cabinet resonances, and subtle hammer, damper, and key release noises. It is even possible to adjust the precise tuning and volume of individual notes, before storing one’s personalized instrument configuration to memory. This level of tonal versatility is unmatched in a digital piano in this class.
In addition to standard MIDI jacks for connecting to other instruments, the CA501 digital piano also boasts integrated Bluetooth V5 MIDI and Bluetooth V5 Audio technology that allows the instrument to communicate with smart devices wirelessly. Once connected to a phone, tablet, or laptop, CA501 digital piano owners can enjoy a wide variety of exciting music-related apps that enhance their learning and playing experience, or stream audio from songs and videos through the instrument’s full-spectrum speaker system without additional cables.
This exclusive feature lets anyone enjoy the thrill of playing the piano, even if they’ve never played before. The Concert Magic function allows complete beginners, or even toddlers, to enjoy playing the piano by simply selecting one of the 176 pre-programmed songs, then tapping the keyboard with a steady rhythm and tempo.

LESSONS AND EXERCISES
The CA501 Concert Artist comes with a lesson function allowing budding pianists to practice the piano using a broad selection of built-in song books and finger exercises. The left- and right-hand parts of each piece can be practiced separately, adjusting the tempo to perfect difficult passages, before being recorded for self-evaluation. Lesson books included in the CA501 are the first year’s lesson songs from Alfred Publishing’s Basic Piano Course 1A and 1B, Premiere Course 1A and 1B and Adult Course 1. The CA501 also includes Burgmuller’s 25 Etudes Faciles, Czerny’s 10 Opus 139, Bach Inventions, and the Chopin Waltzes. In addition the CA501 contains Hanon exercises as well as arpeggios, major & minor scales, chords and cadences for a complete package of built-in learning aids.
GRAND FEEL PEDAL SYSTEM
The CA501 features three pedals – soft, sostenuto, and damper (with half-damper capability). The Grand Feel Pedal System reproduces the individual weighting of each of the three pedals of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano for a more authentic pedaling experience.
SUPERIOR HEADPHONE EXPERIENCE
Play any time of day or night without disturbing anyone. Kawai’s Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology dramatically enhances the depth and realism of the CA501’s sound when listening through headphones or earphones. The player can select from three different acoustic presets that orient the spatial positioning of the sound for a more authentic listening experience. Reduction of auditory fatigue from using earphones or headphones for extended periods of time is also a valuable feature of Kawai’s exclusive SHS headphone technology.
